Silene uniflora ‘Weisskehichen’
ROBIN WHITE BREAST

Robin White Breast is a little darling of a groundcover with snow white cups beaming up, or to give her her full botanical name Silene uniflora ‘Weisskehichen’ (Weisskehichen trnaslates in German as white throated).

Really useful groundcover

Whatever you call it, those little snow white cups keep beaming up delightfully through the spring and summer blooming.
Then for the rest of the year it is a really useful groundcover, as it forms attractive and very dense, low cushions of blue-grey leaves.
So it is a spreading, mat forming, ground-hugging perennial groundcover that is quite capable of inhibiting weed growth and shading the soil very effectively.

Beautiful trailing or hanging

Robin White Breast is a polite, well behaved, and very attractive groundcover to drape down rock walls, cover a bank, and edge the front of a border. It is also good for running over the sides of containers where it makes pretty permanent curtains of grey-green as well as the white cups of bloom.

Hardy & water-wise

Plant Robin White Breast in Full Sun Sun to Part Shade.
Where it is hardy in frost, heat & dry as well as being obligingly drought resistant.
Conversely it also copes well with humidity if necessary.
Robin White Breast is a water-wise plant and can manage on fairly limited water supply.
And it is obligingly tolerant of poorer, less fertile soils, including sandy, gravel or rocky ground and secretly enjoys the good drainage.

Quick & easy from seed

Silene uniflora ‘Weisskehichen’ is very quick and easy to raise from seed, and is soon big enough to plant out into the garden to begin making mats.

Tough & easy in the garden

10cm. High groundcover  x 40cm. Wide dense mat of foliage.
