Blue Sage has showy, clear blue two-lipped flowers blooming on talk stalks. It is a lovely splash of blue among all of the yellow late-season flowers. Pitcher Sage grows in sandy or rocky, well-drained, moist soil, tolerating occasional drought.

Host plant to the Hermit Sphinx Moth. Pitcher Sage attracts butterflies and bees.

Azure Blue Sage can benefit by being pruned by 1/2 in late spring to promote fuller growth and avoid staking. It may otherwise be planted among fuller plants that can provide support.
