A stunning, deciduous perennial that grows from an underground bulb and produces broad, light green leaves and a robust inflorescence densely set with greenish to white flowers and a terminal tuft of short leaves. It is native to rocky grasslands and forests or scrubland in the mountains of southeastern Africa from Malawi to South Africa. In cultivation, Eucomis autumnalis is a well known but not commonly seen ornamental for warm temperate climates in USDA Zones 9 and above.
