An interesting medium-sized conifer with dark, needle-like foliage to about 10 m tall, widespread in forests from northeastern India to central and southern Japan. It makes a handsome ornamental and prunes very well and can be shaped into a hedge. The plum-like fruits are edible. Cephalotaxus harringtonii is hardy and robust and can be grown in most temperate regions in USDA Zones 7 and above.
