A large conifer, to 50 m (160 ft.) tall, with a thick trunk to more than 3 m (10 ft.) in diameter and beautiful, long, spreading branches with drooping tips. It is native to the Hindu Kush in Pakistan and the western Himalaya in India, where it is found up to 3000 m (9800 ft.). It is a popular ornamental with a multitude of cultivars and suitable for USDA hardiness Zones 7 to 9.
