A medium-sized to large, deciduous tree with a large, spreading crown of large, serrated leaves, originally native to forests from southeastern Europe to northern Iran, often forming extensive stands. The spiny fruits hold relatively large, starchy seeds with a smooth, hard, brown skin. They are edible and a delicacy when roasted. They are also dried and ground into a flour which is used in many traditional baked goods. The high quality, rot resistant wood is popular for many indoor and outdoor applications. Our seeds are from high quality fruit varieties grown in Italy.
