Scouler's Popcorn Flower

Prostrate sprawling to rarely erect, hairy throughout. Leaves linear to lance-shaped; lower leaves in 1–4 opposite pairs; upper leaves alternate. Flower is a small, short, white tube with 5 spreading lobes, yellow eye, on one side of coiled stalk. Grows in moist meadows, edges of vernal pools, at low elevations along the coast and elsewhere in Oregon, Washington, and British Columbia. Similar P. mollis is a sprawling perennial plant that roots at the nodes, found in sagebrush scrub and grasslands in Oregon and northern California. There are other similar, annual popcorn flowers in our region.
