More Information About Pratia

Pratia (sometimes called Isotoma or Lobelia) is a small genus of 6 Australian and New Zealandian (I think that's a word) species that are great low-growing ground covers. Their Lilliputian size and tough nature makes pratia perfect for growing between stepping stones, over a wall, in a mixed container, hanging basket, or in a rock garden.

Pratia does not tolerate drought so it is important to grow it in consistently moist (but not sopping wet) soil and full or part sun. In summer, pratia plants are covered with little white or blue flowers. The flowers are followed by small pink to red berries that birds love to eat.

In the right conditions pratia will spread well, putting down new roots every few inches. You can easily take plugs of your Pratia and plant them in empty areas to help the plant fill space even faster. When you are ready to buy pratia for your perennial garden, we hope you'll check out our online offering of pratia for sale.
