This auction is for 20, 30 or 50 seeds of these varieties or a mix of all seven (20, 30, 50 of each variety, packaged separately) you choose, Freshly collected 2018, home grown organically in the UK of this fully hardy shrubs. Pyracantha coccinea from Southern Europe and Western Asia. Pyracantha coccinea 'Red Column' is a selected variety of this species with Red berries. Pyracantha koidzumii 'Victory' is a selected Red berried variety of this species that originates from Taiwan. Pyracantha Mohave is a man made hybrid of Pyracantha koidzumii x Pyracantha coccinea 'Wyatti', Pyracantha Orange Glow is a man made hybrid believed to be (Pyracantha coccinea x Pyracantha crenatoserrata). Pyracantha rogersiana is from Western China. Pyracantha rogersiana 'Flava' is a selected variety of this species with Yellow berries. Pyracantha Soleil d'Or is thought to be a yellow berried chance seedling from a man made hybrid of Pyracantha coccinea 'Lalandei' x Pyracantha pauciflora.

These are great medium - large sized evergreen shrubs or climbers with spiny branches that bare simple leathery dark green leaves. Ideal for a spot in the middle or back of the border, as part of an evergreen prickly hedge or trained as a climber up trellises, walls or other structures. Drough, shade and exposure tolerant. They do well in well drained but moist sites in full sun, but are quite tolerant of other soil types, sites and moisture. They can grow to around 4m (12') high and across, though often stay far smaller and are easily pruned as a medium shrub. They produces corymbs of pretty small white flowers in Spring through to mid-Summer. Followed by bright berries which last right through winter. The berries are bitter and inedible raw but can be made into jams, jellies, preserves and sauces. Long season of interest, great for keeping things and people out of your property and great for pollinators and birds too!
