The towering Entandrophragma excelsum, Africa’s tallest native tree, graces the landscapes of tropical East Africa, traversing the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda, Burundi, Uganda, Tanzania, Malawi, and Zambia. Its sporadic presence can be noted in upland semi-deciduous forests, as well as mid-altitude and montane rainforests, with an elevation range between 1280 and 2150 meters, though it can occasionally be found at 925 meters, particularly in riverine forests.

Laying claim to the title of Africa’s tallest known tree, the Entandophragma Excelsum (or Swahili Mkukusu as it’s locally known), casts a shadow over the Kilimanjaro’s Mbokomu Moshi rural area, measuring an impressive 81.5 meters. The tree is approximately 14 kilometers off the highway.

In close proximity to this majestic giant lies the Mbokomu waterfall, regarded as one of Kilimanjaro, Tanzania’s finest waterfalls.
