Common Name or Meaning Cavaliere's Oberonia [Italian Orciginal Collector of Species early 1900's] - In China Bang Ye Yuan Wei Lan

Flower Size .1" [2.6 mm]

Found in Guangxi, Guizhou, Jiangxi, Sichuan, Yunnan provinces of China as well as India, Nepal, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam in forests or thickets on branches at elevations of 800 to 1500 meters as a miniature sized, warm to cool growing epiphyte with short, often pendulous stems carrying subbasal, 4 to 5, subcylindric to compressed cylindric, more or less laterally compressed, equitant at base, often slightly curved, fleshy, base with white transparent scarious margin on one side, articulate, acuminate apically leaves that blooms in the later summer on a cylindric, wingless, pendulous, 4 to 6 " [10 to 15 cm] long, densely many flowered inflorescence with many, narrowly lanceolate, sterile bracts and has lanceolate, membraneous, irregularily dentate margin, long acuminate apically floral bracts.

CAUTION This species is often confused with the epiteth Phreatia mathewsii. This occurred when Lindley mistakenly put Oberonia myosurus [when describing what is known as O cavaleriei] as a synonym of Epidendrum myosurus, another species which is now known as Phreatia matthewsii. This species is not a Phreatia and the name of Oberonia cavalierei supplanted Oberonia myosurus as it was misapplied. See Phreatia matthewsii to see what the Phreatia species really looks like.

Synonyms Malaxis myosurus C.S.P.Parish & Rchb.f. 1874
