Common Name The Cowl-Carrying Eulophia [refers to the lip] - The Blunt Spurred Ground Orchid

Found in Benin, Burkino, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea-Bissau, Guinea, Ivory Coast, Mali, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Togo, Burundi, Central African Republic, Cameroon, Gabon, Congo, Rwanda, Zaire, Chad, Ethiopia, Sudan, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Angola, Malawi, Mozambique, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Natal and Madagascar in woodlands, scrub, rough grasslands and drier marshes and on the edges of ant hills in short grass swamps at elevations of 200 to 2300 meters as a large to giant sized, hot to cold growing, slender terrestrial with underground, irregularly shaped and in a chain pseudobulbs giving rise to 3 to 4, plicate, erect, linear leaves after or with blooming occuring in the spring and summer on an erect, 2 to 9 flowered inflorescence carrying showy flowers.

This species is used to cure impotence and barrenness by the Zulus in South Africa.
