Pinus rigida / Pitch Pine

When you're hiking in the Hudson Valley, you know you're reaching the top of a mountain when you see Pitch Pine. Thriving where most species falter, Pitch Pine grows naturally in sunny, open, dry sites at high altitudes. In the home landscape, plant Pitch Pine where it has well draining soil and plenty of sun. Can grow in a contorted fashion, adding a striking silhouette, especially in the winter when its evergreen foliage stands out. Typically grows 40 to 60 ft tall with a spread of 30-50 ft.
