Physochlaina orientalis

Here is a rare gem for the alpine garden. Lilac flowers with dark purple centers emerge early in spring and are followed by inflated seed pods. Foliage goes dormant in summer, but may reappear in fall when temperatures drop. Prefers well-drained, humus-rich soil. Despite its rarity, this perennial is very easy to grow.
