Description and Ethnobotany

Growth Form Medium to large-sized tree, able to grow up to about 10 - 20 m tall.
Foliage Green leaves measuring about 15 - 30 cm long, each leaf consists of 5 - 12 pairs of oblong to ovate leaflets about 2 - 5 cm long and 1.2 - 2 cm wide.
Stems Pendulous branches, slender and whitish.
Flowers Pink to whitish-pink flowers in a raceme inflorescence, yellow stamens about 10 and surrounded with green anthers. 
Fruit Fruit is a cylindrical seed pod measuring about 30 - 70 cm long, turns to black when ripen.
Etymology Genus Cassia is from the word "Kasia" which was used by Dioscorides from a Hebrew plant name. Species javanica means from Java, Indonesia.
