Description

Ochagavia is a particularly rare rosette-forming bromelia from Chile, of which only one species is known so far. It is a so-called terrestrial bromelia, which means "growing on the ground", in contrast to epiphytic bromeliads, which usually grow in trees. Mature specimens form a multiflorous inflorescence consisting of a large number of pink flowers crowned with yellow stamens protruding from the centre. It is a slow-growing plant that should be grown outside in full sun from the beginning of May and overwintered frost-free at a minimum of 5 C in winter. As a soil type, a mixture of humus soil mixed with equal parts clay is recommended.
