Sharp-leaved Fluellen - Kickxia elatine

Low to short, often prostrate, rather slender, hairy or stickily hairy plant. Stems branched from the base, Leaves oval to arrow shaped, pointed, stalked. Flowers yellowish to bluish with a violet-purple upper lip, solitary on long stalks from the base of the leaves.

Arable land and cultivated places.

Flowers July to October.

Annual.

Infrequent and rather local, mainly in southern Britain though reaching as far north as Cumbria.

Scarce in Leicestershire and Rutland and restricted in range. In the 1979 Flora survey of Leicestershire it was found in 12 of the 617 tetrads.
