Marsh Foxtail - Alopecurus geniculatus

Description

Creeping or sometimes floating plant it has 'kneed' L shaped stems that grow parallel to the ground before turning upwards. Sometimes rooting at lower joints. Panicles are dense 2 to 7 cm long and narrow. Anthers yellow or purplish.

Wet areas, marshes, on mud and in shallow pools.

Common throughout Britain.

VC55 Status

Common in damp locations in Leicestershire and Rutland. In the 1979 Flora survey of Leicestershire it was found in 407 of the 617 tetrads.
