Since October 2012 ICSA has been collaborating in a study on “Dry Stone” Structures in Sicily.

Lead by Raelene Marshall – a passionate researcher of Dry Walls structures and founder of The Dry Stone Walls Association of Australia-this study is providing scope for a number of initiatives,  amongst which an International meeting focusing on Sicily’s ancient Dry Stones Structures.

Sicily reveals itself once again as a “treasure chest” holding hidden and often underestimated and forgotten jewels which attract  the attention of experts from all part of the world.

ICSA’s assistance has allowed Raelene to discover the great patrimony of Dry Stone Structures in Sicily and meet Prof. Paolo Tiralongo, a sicilian expert in the art of dry stones constructions and author of the book “Pietra su Pietra” a publication that documents beautifully Sicily’s dry stone structures and profiles the age old art of Dry Stone construction.

The meeting, collaboration and energy of these two researchers from opposites sides of the world is testimony to the creativity and synergy that can be brought about through valid academic and cultural dialogue and ICSA is proud to have contributed to their meeting and to continue its collaboration on this project.

A new Cultural Bridge has been established between Sicily and Australia and this time literally by placing: “Stone upon a Stone”!
