Ähnlich wie M. officinalis, aber nur 10-50 cm hoch, Nebenblätter meist deutlich gezähnt. Blütenstand (ohne den Stiel) nur 1-3 cm lang, 10-50blütig, Krone nur 2-3,5 mm lang, Fahne und Schiffchen etwa gleich lang, Flügel etwas kürzer, Frucht 2-3 mm lang, fast kugelig, mit undeutlichen, netzartigen Rippen, 2samig.
