Shape: Multi-stemmed shrub
Leaf/Branch Arrangement: Alternate
Flower: elongated cluster – catkin, 2/3-2 ½ inches long, male and female on different plants
Leaves: 1 ¾-4 inches long, 4-11 longer than wide, pointed tip, underside covered in silver/white wooly hairs
Bark: grey/brown
Fruit/Seed: elongated cluster of pear-horn shaped clusters, yellow/brown, covered in wooly hairs
Height: 12-40 inches
Flowering: April - June
Habitat: calcareous fens, swamps, wet meadows, floating mats, shores, peatlands
