Apparently this warm season grass has found it’s way north and is appearing in some coastal areas, aka my yard. According to my lawn guy, it’s popping up in my town where the sandy soil near salty and brackish water makes for a lovely habitat. Irrigating with salty water is even better.
He says the rumor is that it blew up from the south in one of the bigger storms we had, not sure if that’s true. Treating it is expensive due to the herbicide and repeated treatments required. It will die off at the end of season, let’s hope next spring’s pre-emergent takes care of any seeds. Fortunately I only have a small amount of it.
It looks a bit like crabgrass in the lawn but is hairy on the leaves. Photo not my own.
