Tamboekie grass is a hard thatch type grass. It forms dense stands that are difficult to erradicate.
Burning is not a solution as it benefits the plant. Due to a high lignen content the grass is not utilised by animals as fodder, only in its young growing phase will it be eaten.
This grass type is seen as a pest on farms as it invades areas that are not regularly kept.
It is commonly used in thatch roofs and to make traditional grass brooms.
