Alstonia venenata is a really attractive small tree. When cultivated it tends to grow to 2m and can the crown spread to 3m, in its natural environment it can grow as tall as 6m.
The lanceolate leaves have a wavy edge and turn red before they fall. The leaves are arranged in whorls towards the end of the stem, the older red leaves hang below the green ones adding colour even when the tree is not in flower.
During summer clusters of white five petals flowers are borne on the branch tips.
This delightful tree is a great choice as a small feature tree.
