Pyrrosia lingua (Tongue Fern) is an evergreen fern with a slowly growing and long creeping rhizome that produces simple upright olive green fronds with a tapered base. The leathery leaves have wavy margins with a slight twist, exposing their felted cinnamon to tan undersides. Great in containers, planted on tree trunks or rocks, or planted in the ground as a magnificent evergreen groundcover. Perfect for steep slopes.

  • Grows up to 8-18 in. tall (20-45 cm) and 2-3 ft wide (60-90 cm).
  • A morning sun or bright shade lover, it is best grown in well-drained soils. Water occasionally to regularly.
  • Avoid overwatering and use a well-drained orchid bark amended soil in containers. Drought tolerant once established.
  • Propagate by division.
  • Native to China, Japan, Korea, Taiwan.
