Petasites frigidus var. palmatus (Arctic Sweet Coltsfoot) is a low-growing perennial with rounded clusters of creamy white flowers in spring. Blooming just before the large, palmately divided leaves unfurl, the blossoms are a charming harbinger of spring. Growing in forested and mountainous areas from Alaska to California, east across the northern half of North America to the Atlantic Coast, Arctic Sweet Coltsfoot spreads by fast-growing underground rhizomes to form a groundcover. Preferring moist soils, this is a nice addition for pond, bog, or shade garden where it spreads readily.

  • Grows up to 4-20 in. tall (10-50 cm).
  • Best grown in part shade in moist to wet soils. This plant is tolerant of a variety of garden soils as long as adequate moisture is available
  • No serious pest or disease issues. Deer resistant.
  • Native from Alaska to California, east across the northern half of North America to the Atlantic Coast.
