Sambucus nigra 'Black Lace', a dark-leaved elderberry, blooms with beautiful pink-white umbels in the June-July period. The flowers are very popular with butterflies and bees. After flowering, Sambucus nigra 'Black Lace' forms dark berries that can be used, for example, to make elderberry wine or jam. Herbal tea can be made from the dried blossoms. When the leaves are just sprouting they are still green, but soon they turn darker.
Care
Sambucus nigra 'Black Lace' is not demanding in terms of location and can grow up to 250 cm high. However, this deciduous ornamental shrub can easily be pruned back to the desired height. Moreover, the Sambucus is hardy. Water the shrubs regularly to keep the soil moist. This way you can enjoy its beautiful flowers and berries!
