Red Hot Poker (Kniphofia Caulescens) - Start Red Hot Poker seeds for a fabulous wildflower species, Kniphofia Caulescens, which is native to the high grassy slopes of South Africa's Drakensberg Mountains. It is a slightly lower growing variety than Kniphofia Uvaria. In its native Africa, you will find Red Hot Poker blooming in mid to late summer, in huge fields that are in a blaze with thousands upon thousands of large coral-red and yellow flower spikes. Here in the states, Red Hot Poker typically adds color, texture and structure to the flower garden with its robust rosettes of bluish colored foliage with strap-like leaves and its tall, statuesque colorful flower spikes. While this plant is widely adaptable across much of the country, it does especially well in gardens at higher altitudes.
