Campanula poscharskyana (Serbian Bellflower)

Campanula poscharskyana is an herbaceous perennial groundcover that is native to the northern Balkans, specifically Serbia, thus the common name “Serbian Bellflower”. It is one of those tried and true landscape performers that will thrive in a variety of growing conditions. It can be grown in full sun to part shade, however in hot summer regions it’s best to give it mid-day to afternoon shade. Along the coast it will thrive in all day sun.

The star-shaped flowers of Campanula poscharskyana range from lavender to blue and attract hummingbirds and other beneficial pollinators. It has a semi-prostrate growth habit, growing 8” tall and 12-24” wide. Its trailing habit can easily be controlled with periodic pruning to keep it tidy and promote new growth.

It is beautiful when used as an understory plant alongside Fuchsias, Begonias or Heuchera. Whether you tuck it inside the cervices of a rock wall or in the nooks of a shady rock garden, use it along a semi-shaded walking path, or allow it to billow over the edges of a mixed container, this plant will not disappoint.

Serbian Bellflower is both deer and rabbit resistant and is very easy to grow. It is hardy to < 0°F, and the Sunset Climate Zones are 1-12, 14-24.
