Galium verum

Lady's Bedstraw

Galium verum
Price: £2.25
Attractive to pollinators
A native wild flower of grassland throughout the British Isles. It is a slender, creeping plant with many, more or less erect stems bearing most of the summer panicles of numerous, tiny, coumarin-scented, bright yellow flowers. A plant of many herbal virtues, one of which should, at least, be safe and might be worth trying: a decoction of the herb and flowers is said to refresh the feet after long walks. The flowers have been used in a similar way to rennet for coagulating milk. 1½ft (50cm)

    Germination Instructions

Sow directly. Prior to sowing prepare site. In summer cut or graze hard to create gaps of 50% bare soil. Rake if needed. Try to remove perennial weeds such as docks or thistles. Mix seed with a little sand and broadcast sow. Germination takes 2 weeks approx. Can sometimes be a little slow to germinate.

    Growing Instructions

Easy to grow. Prefers a moist, humus-rich soil in partial sun. Will tolerate full sun. Will tolerate a dry soil. Dislikes very acid soils.

    Cultivation Instructions

No pruning required. The plant will spread via runners and may eventually become invasive.
