    Surprisingly rarely available is this attractive little annual from the Mediterranean region with yellow or orange flowers, each about 1½ins across. A useful plant for the border, the flowers can be pickled and the Bedouins use the leaves as a condiment for clarified butter. 2ft (60cm)

    Germination Instructions

    Sow directly where they are to flower from Apr-May. Sow thinly 10mm deep in drills spaced 30cm apart into well prepared soil which has been raked to a fine tilth. Germinates in the dark. Germination 5-10 days. When large enough to handle thin out to 30cm spacing. Can be started early indoors, sow into moist seed compost, temp. 18-23°C. Transplant seedlings when large enough to handle to 8cm pots and grow on in cooler conditions until large enough to plant out. Can be sown in autumn for early flowering the following year overwinter in a conservatory or greenhouse.

    Water regularly until well established. Easy to grow.

    Cultivation Instructions

     Cut flowers regularly to encourage growth and to prolong flowering window or deadhead. Will gently self-seed.
