Worldwide distribution

Macaronesian Endemism (Azores, Madeira and Canary Islands), although it appears in a relict form in the mountains of Algeciras and Tangier.

Northeast of La Palma, North and Center of La Gomera, North and Southeast of Tenerife, and North of Gran Canaria.

Habitat

Present in forests of the most humid areas and bottoms of narrow ravines of the monteverde. (González, 2002)

Population data

In the census carried out in 2009 in Gran Canaria, the population was estimated at 156 adult individuals. (Sánchez, T. 2009). In the census conducted in 2010, there were 111 adults and 86 juveniles on La Palma; in La Gomera, 13 1,515 adults and 167 juveniles were counted; in Tenerife 617 adults and 101 juveniles. (Mesa, R. 2010)
