Description:

Olive is an evergreen tree that grows to heights of 10 m and more. The tree canopy is extensive, oval and loose, the trunk is sinuous and gnarled and often becomes hollow and divided with the passing of time, the bark is light gray. Its leaves are long and narrow, ashy grey-green on top and a soft, silky white underneath. The leaves are simple, opposite and coriaceous, elliptic or lanceolate. The species is distributed in the Mediterranean basin, cultivated throughout Italy, but it also grows spontaneously along the Mediterranean coasts, from the evergreen submontane area of the Mediterranean to the oaks and chestnut forests of mountainous regions. It is cultivated for its fruit in all the central and southern regions, and in the northern regions where the climate is mild, such as around the lakes.

Distribution: This plant is widespread throughout Italy.

Flowering period and/or allergen exposure: The flowering period lasts from December/January to April.

Allergy testing: High allergenicity. The pollen from olive trees is abundant and particularly aggressive.

Cross-reactive foods: olives, olive oil.
