About this item

  • This rapidly-growing, broad pyramidal evergreen tree has medium to dark green foliage. Its rich green foliage grows 30-50 feet tall. Ideally used for a decorative accent, and wind or privacy screen.
  • This adaptable and easy to grow plant needs a regular water schedule to ensure the growth of a mature root system. The first year of growth requires watering at least once per day. After the mature root system is established, watering is needed occasionally, except during a drought, watering is needed regularly. Pruning is not necessary. To maximize its growth allow the necessary amount of space.
  • Amount of Sunlight: Full sun to partial shade. Amount of Water: Water once per day during first year of growth; Drought tolerant. Soil Conditions: Prefers deep well- drained soil; Adaptable to a wide range of soil conditions including saturated soils. Cold Hardiness Zone: 5-9
  • The Thuja Green Giant is the perfect fast growing evergreen for a privacy hedge or wind screen. Plant one every 5-6 feet and they quickly create a dense barrier.

I bought 70 of these trees for some future privacy, sound barrier and wind breaking. They came nicely packaged (in 2 boxes believe it or not) and a beautiful dark green color. They were about 10"- 17" in height. I planted them in late March when the weather started getting warmer and then was hit with 3 snow storms and also freezing nights that lasted into early May. By this time, my little trees had turned a light green and were orange in some areas. They didn't get much water the 1st two months bc of the freezing cold either. I thought for sure they were going to die. When the weather got better, I cut off the bad looking parts and started some deep watering once a week. Its been 5 weeks since I started doing that and all 70 trees have regained about 90% of their color; have thicker branches; appear to be fuller and are ranging from 12"-22" with 19" being average.(thats 2 to 5 inches per tree of growth, with only 2 of them being 12 inches) They still have about 10 more weeks of growing. I'm actually impressed that they are still alive, much more growing. I read some where they don't grow much the 1st year due to the roots needing to be established 1st so I didn't expect much. These have far surpassed my expectations. Nice, beautiful, healthy trees. In the fall I will post an update on how much they grew.
