Product Description

pink flowers

Decorative Succulent

Sedum plants are succulents, meaning they have fleshy leaves that retain moisture for survival in dry, drought-common regions. As such, this plant thrives in dry regions.

Sedum (Sedum Stoloniferum)

Every garden has a space for this unique Sedum ground cover plant! Start Sedum Stoloniferum seeds for plants that produce pink, star-shaped flowers on trailing stems. This sedum variety spreads by stolons, which is where it earns its common name of Stolon Stonecrop. Sedum Stonecrop is a succulent ground cover, and it holds moisture in its thick, fleshy leaves: this makes it considerably drought tolerant and hardy.

This variety of Sedum ground cover grows up to 8 inches tall and can be grown in full sun or partial shade in dry, well-draining, rocky soils. Stolon Stonecrop not only thrives in soils that would otherwise discourage plant growth, but it is also fairly resistant to both deer and rabbits. The ideal method for watering sedum is to give the soil a good soak, and then allow to dry before providing another watering.

Stolon Stonecrop is native to the Middle East. This results in a unique combination of being both drought tolerant and frost hardy.

How To Grow

Sedum has very tiny seeds which are best sown by mixing with a fine sand. If sowing indoors, pre-moisten a sterile starter mix and surface sow the mixture of seed and sand.

Sow 6-8 weeks before the last expected frost, and press into the soil without covering. Keep seeds moist until germination, which will occur in 14-28 days under proper conditions.

Once seedlings are established, transplant them outdoors after frost season has passed. Established plants can be divided every 3-4 years for best performance.

Great yield, but not sure this is Dragon's Blood. Also, yes, the seeds are meant to be small...

Great yield, but not sure this is Dragon's Blood. Also, yes, the seeds are meant to be small...
Edit #2: The plants that grew were amaranth, a.k.a. pig weed. They became massive. I'm ~5'4" and some were taller than me and thick, too. Removed them all and tried new plants the next spring... The same amaranth regrew and prevented nearly everything else from growing. It was an absolute bear trying to weed them out. It was fun to pull them out to essentially make a mini "corn maze." We laugh about it, but it was not what we wanted and wasted a significant amount of seeds for our second season.Edit #1: The plants have grown nearly 3' tall, which is great, but I've lowered my rating from 3 stars to 2 because from everything I can tell these are not Dragon's Blood. I do believe they are sedum of some sort, but all of my research says that it should either be in a creeping 4" variety (which is what the listing's picture shows), or a 12" variety. I'm quite irritated that I have no idea what is growing, so I have no idea how to care for it.Original: I'm new to gardening and, after a bunch of research, wanted to try planting Dragon's Blood Sedum ground cover. I found pictures of the bush-like plants with pink flowers, as well as the ones that appear to have succulent-type leaves and red spiky flowers. I purchased this listing because it advertises the latter, and I was hoping to just get a ground cover that would spread and take over our backyard patch of dirt.I've checked the listing and package multiple times to make sure I'm not missing anything. What we have is definitely not the ground cover type. It's growing wonderfully (takes 4-6 weeks to grow. Ours started coming up exactly at 4 weeks. The left side is weaker but the tree stump over there is a menace with massive roots that constantly attempt to regrow; we think it's keeping nutrients away from the seedlings). So I'm torn as to how to rate my review. What we have is growing wonderfully, but it's not what the listing says it is.Sidenote: Everyone complains that the seeds are borderline microscopic. Yes... That's just how they are. My partner and I planted a pinch full every 10", and then opted to sprinkle the rest throughout haphazardly. Some seeds are just small.

I spread the Sedum Acre Stonecrop's very tiny seeds in spring by pinching a few between one finger and thumb, placing them in a hot south facing window box. This box gets so hot and dry nothing else will grow there. By summer it had very lovely light green foliage. It did not bloom this first year but I did not mind because the leaves are beautiful and unique. They all survived their 1st Minnesota winter (-10 degrees fahrenheit without mulching) and those little leaves are green before anything else.

Based on another review I soaked my seeds for over a week, hoping that would help. Then I used an eye dropper to distribute seeds and water between my stepping stones, then watered them in. Fortunately we had a lot of rain so I didn't see a need to keep watering. About 4 weeks after I started soaking the seeds a few finally sprouted. They're growing well but I was hoping for more than 20-30 plants from 5000 seeds. Is $7 a good price for 30 little plants?

Only one seed sprouted out of 5000. I have never seen anything so small. 5000 seeds would not even have filled half a thimble. As I go back and look at the reviews this is a common problem so I guess I only have myself to blame for this error in judgement.

I ordered these thinking I can plant in doors, then transplant out doors when the weather warms up.
When I opened it the seeds were so tiny I could in no way do as I planned.
