Product Description

This auction is for one (1) Ensete Maurelii - Red Abyssinian Banana plant. This fantastic tropical plant can be the centerpiece of your landscaping effort. This popular banana provides striking red coloration on green leaves making a nice backdrop for other tropicals. Ensete Maurelii is often referred to as the Ethiopian Banana. Grown mainly as foliage plants, Ensete is a reasonably frost resistant perennial growing 10-20' in height with leaves up to 10'. They prefer to be sheltered from the wind but in full sun with a moist soil. Can be grown in containers.

I'm pleased with the plant I received today. It's small but robust, seems healthy, and ready to grow. I've grown bananas (both Ensete and Musa Basjoo) in NE gardens in both landscapes and in containers. This is a nice specimen. People that have no experience with growing bananas need to realize that when the heat and humidity of summer bears down, bananas will grow like wildfire.

I was sadly disappointed when I received the plant. It was less than 4 inches tall with only 2 TINY leaves. The width of the banana plant was the size of a drinking straw. I tried to remain positive so I kept the plant. I followed the enclosed instructions, and a month later the 2 TINY leaves have died! This tiny plant was NOT worth the price tag!
