Description: Aeonium canariense var. subplanum is a low growing species with large fuzzy rosettes reaching 20cm or more in diameter. The hairy foliage is very soft due to minute glandular hairs and feels like soft velvet. Plants will develop a small number of offsets over time. In nature plants are often found growing on vertical cliff faces and escarpments.

Plant Care: All the Aeonium canariense varieties make interesting potted specimens and are beautiful plants to grow. Plants will handle a good amount of shade BUT grow in good light to achieve the best colours, avoiding the very hot afternoon sun of the plants may burn.

Origins & Distribution: Canary Islands (La Gomera)

Comments: Some botanists now recognise and have reclassed the four Aeonium canariense varieties to subspecies status. This is now more correctly known as Aeonium canariense ssp. latifolium. To avoid immediate confusion we will retain the old name for now

Comments: There is another commonly sold Aeonium which is also sold as Aeonium canariense var. subplanum. This other specimen is incorrectly identified and they are two very different plants.
