Major Antioxidative Substances in Boreava orientalis (Cruciferae)2000 •
Antioxidative activities for lipid peroxidation of C-glycosylflavones isolated from the fruits of Boreava orientalis and related compounds were studied. C-glycosylflavones, especially isovitexin and isoorientin, were found to be antioxidative constituents of the fruits of B. orientalis. The activity of isoorientin was stronger than that of isovitexin.

Assessment of the antioxidant and antiradicalic capacities in vitro of different phenolic derivatives2014 •
Antioxidative compounds play a vital role to inhibit the oxidation of oxidizable products and influences the body defense system against Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS), which are harmful byproducts engendered during normal aerobic cellular respiration. ROS are specialized class of highly reactive molecules that originates during oxygen metabolism, whereas extensive evidences indicate the involvement of ROS in the development of degenerative diseases in humans. Despite the fact that synthetic antioxidants such as butylated hydroxyanisole (BHA) and butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT) are threat to human’s health; they are widely employed as chemical preservatives to avert potential deterioration of food products. Several toxicological findings reveal that natural antioxidants are capable of providing protection against free radical-related diseases, cancer and other cardiovascular infections. In cognizance with these facts, natural antioxidant attracts a great deal of research interest; therefore, this review provides a comprehensive and an up-to-date overview of the three most essential natural plant antioxidants; their antioxidative properties, methods of analysis and evaluation. These Polyphenols comprise: Phenolic acid, an essential polyphenol that are broadly dispersed in plants to exert positive influence on oxidative stress; Flavonoid, an ubiquitous antioxidant that functions in free radical scavenging, metal ion chelation and enzymes inhibition to suppress the synthesis of free radicals; and Tannic acid, a water soluble anti-nutrient that acts to precipitate alkaloids & proteins, reduce mineral & vitamin utilization and restrict the activities of digestive enzymes. In conclusion, a variety of plant species were characterized to indicate in vitro antioxidative properties.

Test cases for commissioning an add-on micro multi-leaf collimator Apex for stereotactic radiosurgery treatmentsTwo comprehensive test cases are presented for dosimetric commissioning of a radiosurgery system, in a hospital where dedicated phantoms are not available. The system consisted of an Elekta Precise linear accelerator, an Apex micro multi-leaf collimator, and a Monaco treatment planning system (TPS). The purpose of Test I was to assess the dose accuracy with coplanar arc beams. Test II was an end-to-end type test, a rigid Leksell stereotactic frame was fixed to a watermelon phantom and Ergo++ TPS was used for stereotactic coordinates definition. The purpose of Test II was to assess the dose accuracy with non-coplanar arc beams and the influence of geometrical accuracy in the whole process. Ionization chambers were used for dose measurements. Results of Test I showed that discrepancies below 1% are achievable, while results of Test II allowed detection of geometric shifts < 1 mm with dose discrepancies lower than 1%. To the best of our knowledge, there are not published works repor...

In the United States, foreign language immersion programs are K-8 voluntary programs wherein children are instructed in the core subjects in a language other than English. Even though these programs are quite popular, many parents, having purposefully chosen immersion for their child‟s education, change their mind and transfer their child in a regular non-immersion program. What factors guide parents‟ decisions to enroll their child, keep him in, or withdraw him from a foreign language immersion program? Because student attrition is detrimental both for the student (Wiss, 1989) and the institution he leaves (Louisiana Consortium of Immersion Schools, 2006), it is equally important for researchers and school administrators to explore the extent of the phenomenon, investigate the reasons for student withdrawal from foreign language immersion programs, and attempt to identify trends within these reasons. Research from higher education (Tinto, 1073) offers an attrition/persistence model...

Tiivistelmä-Referat-Abstract The origin of security dilemmas has long been a central question in international relations. Three archetypal models of the security dilemma can be found in international relations literature. According to the spiral model, security dilemmas are driven by the inability of security-seeking states to coordinate their policies in an anarchic political space, while the deterrence model implies that security dilemmas are caused by the offensive intentions of at least one of the actors in an anarchic system. Advocates of the model of peaceful change, in turn, maintain that security dilemmas are nothing more than a social construction: anarchy is what states make of it. In this thesis I deconstruct and reconstruct some key aspects of security dilemma theories in a hitherto unexplored (meta)theoretical context, that of Jacques Lacan's psychoanalytical theory. The aim of the thesis is to show how a Lacanian interpretation of one phenomenon "predationism&...
