The new species Crepidorhopalon mutinondoensis from Zambia is described and illustrated. It is closely related to Crepidorhopalon latibracteatus and C. parviflorus from which it differs in the glabrous calyx and bracts except for the minute hairs along the margins of each, and the smaller calyx and corolla. It differs from Crepidorhopalon symoensii in the entire bracts and the long peduncle. A key to the species of Crepidorhopalon with capitate inflorescence is provided.

A re-examination of the herbarium material has allowed to describe a new species, Corbichonia exellii, occurring in Southern Africa (Angola, Namibia and South Africa). C. exellii represents the third species in the genus. Morphological differences between all three Corbichonia species (C. decumbens, C. rubriviolacea, and C. exellii) are provided. The description of the genus is defined using the newly discovered characters (reproductive features). The taxonomy of all Corbichonia species (synonyms included) is provided, as well as maps for all species. The lectotypes of Orygia decumbens (basionym of Corbichonia decumbens) and O. mucronata (synonym of C. decumbens) are designated on specimens preserved, respectively, at BM and K. The genus Corbichonia, recently placed in Lophiocarpaceae, is markedly different from the core genus Lophiocarpus on the basis of embryological, morphological and carpological characters, and deserves further investigation concerning its taxonomic status.

Lijndenia udzungwarum R.D. Stone & Q. Luke, a shrub or small tree of Tanzania’s Udzungwa Mountains, is described and illustrated. The placement of the new species in Lijndenia is indicated by its trinervate, papillose-muricate leaves and persistent bracteoles partially fused to form a cupule immediately subtending each flower. The cordate leaves of L. udzungwarum are unique in the genus. From the East African L. brenanii (A. Fern. & R. Fern.) Jacq.-Fél. and L. procteri (A. Fern. & R. Fern.) Borhidi, the new species is further distinguished by its capitellate inflorescences on long, filiform, axillary peduncles, resembling those of the Sri Lankan L. capitellata (Arn.) K. Bremer. Despite its local endemism, L. udzungwarum has been assessed as ‘Least Concern’ according to IUCN criteria, although this assessment is dependent on the continued safeguarding of the Udzungwa Mountains National Park. An identification key is provided for the three currently recognized Tanzanian species of Lij...

A checklist of vascular plants of Platberg was compiled to determine species richness, rarity and endemism. The floristic analysis is part of the Department of Economic, Tourism and Environmental Affairs Free State biodiversity assessment programme and conservation management plan for Platberg. The analysis identified a total of 669 species belonging to 304 genera and 95 families, with 214 species belonging to the Monocotyledoneae and 438 species to the Dicotyledoneae. The largest family is Asteraceae with 126 species, followed by Poaceae with 73 species, Cyperaceae with 39 species, Fabaceae with 33 species, and Scrophulariaceae with 27 species. Various fynbos species were found, as well as 26 endemic/near-endemic species belonging to the Drakensberg Alpine Centre or Eastern Mountain Region. The results of this study revealed that Platberg shares inselberg floral richness and endemism that can be tracked via the Afromontane archipelago-like string of inselbergs and mountains, which ...
