A new species of Cyperus section Incurvi (Cyperaceae) from Venezuela2017 •
Cyperus fedoniae is described as a new species. It is known from a single collection from the lowlands of southern Venezuela. It is a member of section Incurvi. It is related to C. dichromeniformis and C. inops, from which it can be distinguished by its smaller size and features of spikelets and achenes. A distinctive feature is the arching culms which take root at the base of the spikelets.

Re-instatement of Bulbostylis tisserantii (Cyperaceae) an ignored species from Central AfricaBulbostylis viridecarinata (De Wild.) Goetgh. is a widespread species occurring in many parts of Tropical Africa. Bulbostylis tisserantii Cherm. was synonymized with this species but based on numerous morphological differences this species should be re-instated at species rank. It is only known from three collections, all originating in the southern part of the Central African Republic. Descriptions and conservation status for both species are provided and their main distinguishing features are opposed and illustrated. Lectotypes are designated for Bulbostylis fasciculata Cherm. and Fimbristylis tisserantii Cherm.

Bulbostylis itremoensis (Abildgaardieae, Cyperaceae), a new sedge species from MadagascarSummaryAn endemic species of Bulbostylis (Abildgaardieae, Cyperaceae) from Madagascar is described as new to science. Bulbostylis itremoensis is only known from two localities: the Itremo and Isalo massifs in the province of Fianarantsoa. The species can be recognised by its habit with numerous crowded culms, leaves and thick, soft roots with an outer mycorrhizal layer. Its culm is hairy, angular with about 10 rounded longitudinal ridges without conspicuous surface cells. The leaf sheaths are light brown to straw-coloured with numerous longitudinal nerves, densely short-hairy on the nerves but with numerous flexuose whitish hairs at their oblique orifices. Its inflorescence is a dense hemispherical head of c. 15 crowded spikelets with many erect or spreading involucral bracts. Its glumes are ovate, densely scabrid of which medium-reddish brown with a prominent 1 – 3-nerved green midrib ending below the obtuse apex or excurrent into a short mucro. This species is described, illustrat...

Three new species of Cypella are described and illustrated for the complex of grasslands ecosystems of rio de La Plata: C. aurinegra, C. guttata and C. ravenniana. The former is endemic to the region of the Taquari river, southern Cerro Largo department, Uruguay, and is closely related to Cypella fucata and C. luteogibbosa, but can be distinguished from these species by its yellow flowers stained with dark-purple, narrower outer tepals, smaller inner tepals, shorter adaxial crests of style branches, slender filaments, and seeds with smooth testa. Cypella guttata occurs in artigas and rivera departments, northern Uruguay, and in Santana do Livramento Municipality, southwestern rio Grande do Sul State, brazil. This species resembles C. herbertii and C. lapidosa, and can be distinguished by its flowers with central depression showing red spots, filaments narrower and tape-shaped, style branches with shorter adaxial crests, and small transverse stigmatic surface of the abaxial crest. The range of geographic distribution of C. ravenniana includes southern Misiones, and northeast Corrientes Provinces, argentina, and west and northwest rio Grande do Sul State, brazil. This species can be recognized by its one-flowered spathes, borne on short peduncles. Cypella ravenniana was firstly misidentified as C. suffusa; however, having as base the type and topotypical collections of the latter species, C. suffusa is recognized by its two-flowered spathes borne on long peduncles, and perigone golden-yellow with deep central concavity. data about phenology, geographic distribution, conservation and dichotomous keys to segregate these three new species from its related species are supplied.
