Lacy Phacelia (Phacelia tanacetifolia) also known as Lady Scorpion weed, is an annual herb native to the Southwest. This is a must-have in any butterfly garden with its numerous honey-scented blooms. The high-quality nectar and prolific blooming period from March through May make it especially important to our native bumblebees, honey bees, and butterflies. Plant in rocky, sandy soil, and full sun. The herb will grow up to 4’X2′ and is a good choice for container gardening. It will require watering at least once a week. It’s often used as a cover crop as it captures nutrients in the soil, and absorbs nitrates and calcium. Farmers have planted it near vegetable feels as it increases their yields, and encourages all pollinators. Lacy Phacelia (Phacelia tanacetifolia) is an annual herb that readily self-seeds, and out-competes weeds. Warning, it can sometimes be irritating to human skin.
