Cotoneaster apiculatus - Cranberry Cotoneaster
Leaves - Alternate, simple, suborbicular to orbicular-ovate, apiculate, glabrous at maturity or only slightly ciliate, 3/5 inches long. Margin-wavy.
Buds - Small, weakly imbricate, 2 outer scales parted and exposing the hairy interior, brown to pale gray in color, usually appressed.
Stem - Greenish red-brown with appressed pubescence, older stems gray-brown and ragged in appearance.
Growth Habit - Low spreading (3 feet) form with especially coarse outline in winter.
Fruit - Pome, bright red, cranberry-like, hence the common name Cranberry Cotoneaster.
