Let's save Abongphen Highland Forest: Newtonia Camerunensis (Critically Endangered)

Newtonia Camerunensis is one of Cameroon’s endemic and rare plant species found only in the Bamenda Highlands and Bamboutous mountains. Over the past years, exploitation of this rare plant for timber is pushing this species into extinction at the speed of light. As of IUCN assessment of 2000 this plant is listed as Critically Endangered. In present days this plant has become very difficult to find in the Bamanda highlands and in the Abongphen forest in particular making it possible for us to conclude that this plant is rapidly going to extinction.

Newtonia Camerunensis is a species of legume plant with its restricted natural habitat being the montane tropical forest of Cameroon. Being a leguminous plant it is very rich in nitrogen and hence plays an important role in restoration of degraded landscapes.

You will agree with me that plant forms the back bone of all life on earth and man cannot survive for a second without plant. So join our efforts to save this unique plant by re-establishing its population in the degraded Abongphen Highlands Forest. Your contribution will go a long way to help save this plant from disappearing from the surface of the earth, the Abongphen forest from deforestation and degradation and the human race in the Bamenda Highlands from going into extinction.
