My acute paronychia

Eeew….. That’s disgusting…. That’s what my husband said when he saw this. I actually took a picture of this to show him because he was overseas when my finger was “suffering” last month.

Actually, I have seen patients with this, and treat patients with this problem. I even perform a little surgery for them, to allow the pus to be released. But really, I realise that I can treat the condition best when I understand how it feels (yes, it was very painful), and how to relieve the pain, release the pus. And now, if I were to see another patient with this same problem, I’d be able to advise him or her better, and not just prescribe medications and perform the incision and drainage.

I couldn’t help but remember this verse in Hebrews 2:9

But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels, for the suffering of death crowned with glory and honor, that He, by the grace of God, might taste death for everyone.

Jesus, the Son of God, really doesn’t have to go through the pain and suffering of dying on the cross. Yet, out of His love for us, He willingly went through it, so that He may understand death, that He may understand what we have to go through.

A good doctor is one who can understand what his patients feel.
