This is a tiny, erect annual plant that grows as a rosette following autumn rains, continuing to grow through winter and dying down with hotter weather. The leaves are shaped like a teaspoon giving it its common name. It occurs sporadically in open spaces along the Jan Juc cliff top where it grows on shallow soils and is protected from trampling by foot traffic.
Leaves are lightly woolly above and densely whitish below.
Flowers are almost inconspicuous and occur as woolly, greenish-brown or whitish daisy flowerheads.
