Clarkia purpurea purpurea

Wildflowers Dicots Myrtales Onagraceae Clarkia

Winecup, Purple Clarkia.

This species has three subspecies, of which at least one other, fourspot clarkia, is visible in our area.

I’ve seen this subspecies out on Matias trail in the back country, blooming in June, mixed with fourspots. Since fourspots began blooming in May (or maybe April) this one probably did too.
