Prostrate or climbing herb 2–3 m. long from a tuberous rootstock; stems striate, ± adpressed grey or ferruginous pubescent, usually with gland-tipped hairs but these may be absent; tendrils present, red.

Leaves somewhat fleshy, 3–5-foliolate, sessile or subsessile; leaflets narrowly elliptic to obovate or oblanceolate-obovate, 1–12 cm. long, 0.7–5 cm. wide, rounded to acute at the apex, cuneate at the base, crenate to sharply serrate, sometimes folded along the midrib, often falcate, sparsely to densely puberulous or pubescent or glabrescent; median petiolule 0.3–1.5 cm. long, pubescent or puberulous and sometimes with a few gland-tipped hairs; stipules ovate or oblong, acuminate, 0.5–1.5 cm. long, up to 6.5 mm. wide, ± falcate, pubescent.

Cymes lax from terminal and short lateral shoots, 6 cm. wide extending to 15 cm. in fruit; peduncle 1.5–7 cm. long, grey or ferruginous pubescent and often with gland-tipped hairs; pedicels (1–)2–4 mm. long, densely whitish or ferruginous pubescent; bracts and bracteoles linear, 2 mm. long, pubescent.

Grassland, also riverine thicket at lower altitudes and edges of relict forest patches of Apodytes, Tecomaria, etc.; 780–1920 m.
