The native range of this subspecies is Africa to Sinai, Indian Subcontinent to China (Yunnan) and Peninsula Malaysia, Taiwan to Philippines (Luzon). It is an annual and grows primarily in the seasonally dry tropical biome.

Erect annual herb 30-120 cm high, aromatic; stems laxly branched, sparsely ascending-pubescent.
