Seedling
Cotyledons very small, 3-4 x 2-3 mm, ovate-rounded, sessile-embracing, hairless. Primordial leaves opposite, obovate-spatulate, toothed in the upper half with visible veins, glabrous. The hypocotyl axis is very short. Light green seedling with a characteristic aromatic odour.
Adult plant
Cladanthus mixtus is an annual, aromatic, upright plant. Stems are simple or branched from the base, ribbed, often reddish, up to 1 m high, pubescent. Radical leaves are petiolate, uni- or bipinnate, hairy on the lower face and with a clearly visible main vein. Stem leaves are identical but become more and more narrowly petiolate until they are clasping. Terminal capitula on long peduncle, 15-25 mm in diameter, with narrow, greenish involucral bracts bordered by a scarlet wing and a finely woolly outer surface. Numerous ligulate peripheral florets, with a large white ligule clearly spotted with yellow at the base, and 3 small apical lobes. Central florets tubular with equal, golden-yellow petals. The base of the tube is extended by a spur which covers the ovary. Scales with pointed apex and keeled back, completely enveloping the ovary. Achenes about 1.5 mm long, finely striated, without pappus, with asymmetrical apex.

Medicinal: The flowering tops of Cladanthus mixtus are rich in monoterpenes, 1,8 cineole and camphor, and are a general tonic and anti-infectious. They are indicated for nervous fatigue, intestinal and urinary tract infections, parasitosis and skin care. We recommend 1 to 2 drops of essential oil two to four times a day. For general massage and local application to the areas to be treated.
