Ammania prieureana is an erect branched annual herb that grows to 60 cm tall. The leaves are linear lanceolate, opposite decussed. They are arranged in a horizontal plane and regularly staggered, auriculate at the base. The flowers are small, purple in color. They are grouped in short dense cymes in the axils of the leaves. The fruit is a capsule that contains many small seeds.

    General habit

An erect annual branched herb up to 60 cm tall, fully hairless.

    Underground system

    The root is a taproot.

    Stem

The main erect stem is of square section. It has secondary branches erect.

    Leaf

The leaves are simple, opposite decussed, arranged in a horizontal plane. They are regularly spaced and staggered on the main stem and secondary branches. They are linear lanceolate, sessile, clearly auriculate at the base and acute corner at the top. Both sides are glabrous, the margin is entire, only one central vein marked.

    Inflorescence

The flowers are grouped in small dense cymes located at the axils of the leaves and borne by a peduncle of 1-5 to 3 mm.

    Flower

The flower is borne by a pedicel 1.5 to 3 mm long. It measures about 3 mm in diameter. The petals, 4 in circular form, are purple. The style is filiform, shorter than the ovary, 0.3 mm. The stamens are four in number.
